Hello!
I’m Jo, a ceramic artist living and working in the South Downs National Park. This landscape shapes everything I make - from the gentle curves of the hills to the textures of trees, animals and the natural rhythms of the countryside.
My creative journey began several years ago when we moved to Hampshire. I first trained in stained glass, then explored fused glass, before finally discovering clay after watching The Great Pottery Throwdown. I booked some throwing lessons… and that was it. I was completely hooked!
About me
Today, I work from a purpose-built studio at home, with two pottery wheels, a kiln, shelves creaking with posts of glazes, and all the tools I need…plus Bessie, my rescued mioritic shepherd dog, who keeps me company when I’m working.
I live with my husband Tim, who has been by my side for over 40 years. We have two wonderful daughters, Scarlett and Sheri, who continue to inspire me in different ways.
I love creating forms and small sculptural pieces inspired by nature, work that feels organic, tactile and connected to place. I’m drawn to making ceramics that are both beautiful and practical, pieces that naturally find a place in everyday life.
While I still juggle pottery alongside a 9–5 job for now, seeing people choose, use and enjoy my work is something I never take for granted. Knowing that something I’ve made by hand becomes part of someone’s home is what makes life so meaningful.
Making ceramics is my way of slowing down and staying connected - to nature, to the seasons, and to the quiet joy of working with my hands. Thank you for visiting…
